Power Steering Sounds Like A Diesel?
Power Steering Sounds Like A Diesel?
I Noticed that when I turn the steering wheel far enough (mostly when driving slowly), I get what sounds like a mild mannered diesel engine sound coming from what I am assuming would be the power steering.
The steering feels fine with no inconsistencies throughout the range in both directions, I checked PS Fluid level, it's fine but I checked nothing else.
I'm wondering if this is a Pre-Someting sign...
Any Ideas out there.

i'm guessin you mean its kinda hissing when you turn the wheel?like it sounds when you turn it to lock.you might wanna change the fluid if you've never changed it,mine was doin that pretty bad,i changed the fluid and it got alot better.it still does it when i'm goin slow and turnin quick, like whippin into a parkin space, but it hasn't gotten any worse and it works fine so i'm thinkin it just gets a little noisier with age.i think you're supposed to refill it with mercon/dexron III tranny fluid, hope that helped some
Thanks for the Reply Nick, but, nope not the hissing sound. It really does sound like a small diesel, let say from an idling Jetta TDI. I'm assuming it's a power steering related issue 'cause it only does it when turning.
