2002 F-150 broken axle
Has anyone heard or had an issue with the F150 front left axle breaking?
I'm posting for my bro-inlaw who was just in an accident (luckily just in a parking lot) where his front left axle severly broke and made him hit a light standard.
It broke between the differential and wheel I do belive. I haven't even seen it yet.
I don't have detail yet as to exact model but was wondering if there is any information out there.
His insurance company is balking at paying anything because:
1. He was 2 days late with his payment
2. They say it's a structural issue and to take it up with Ford.
Ends up being a bit of a David and Goliath fight then. :-\
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.

Sorry I hadn't even seen the truck the way it was but it's gone now.
From the description I got it was that the axle basically broke in half between the wheel and differential. By the descitpion itwas seroious enough to leave a huge scrape in the pavement and cause the truck to swerve left into a light standard.
I think that was the case here but my father-in-law did call Transport Canada and has been contacted by an investigator who is looking in the matter as it's not the first case of serious axle failure in that model.

I have put 2 97+ F-150 through some serious stuff and never broke a half shaft in two. I have see guys break CV joints but never the half shaft. There has to be some major defect in the metal for what you describe to have happened. We might be in for a recall just like when the lug bolts were changed.
