Rear end problem
Please no *** jokes.
A few months ago I noticed when accelerating from a stop the rear end of the truck would skip/hop a little. The rear end hop would happen more when the front wheel was turned, like when you parallel park. It happens when going forward or in reverse. There’s a limited slip diff on the truck. This happens even when the road is wet. The truck has about 34000 miles on it. Anyone ever have a similar problem?
Thanks,
Wayne

powerstroke seems to have hit the nail on its head. The LS clutch pack kit is pretty inexpensive if you get it from someone other than ford. Randy's Ring and Pinion National Drivetrain wharehouse all should have it for about 35 bucks or so. The expensive part is the labor.

Since the truck is still under warranty I brought it in for service. First they asked me “Who worked on the rear end?” No one did, I bought it new from the dealer and this was the first time I had any problem with the rear end. They said there was some “form-a-gasket on the diff cover”, news to me. Then they told me there was water in the gear oil. They replaced a “pinion seal.” The problem is still there. If water got in to the diff I’m assuming they would have to replace more than a seal. Clutch plates maybe?? Could anything in the diff have failed due to water contamination?

Did Dealer change diff. fluid & add friction modifier?
#1: 8.8" Ford diff's come from the factory with "form-a-gasket" on the diff. cover. #2 Nature of the Beast: 75W140 tends to draw moisture.
I think these people are "blowing smoke", or doing the shuffle to get you past the warranty period--so that can swoop down and nail You for a bunch of cash.
Take your truck to another dealer. I think You may be suprised.

OK the simple fact that the dealer you took it to did not even know that these trucks come from the factory with a
"form a gasket" silicone bead as the gasket and not a regular rubber or fiber type gasket would make me want to find another dealer to work on my truck. If you purchased the truck used it is possible that the truck had the differential submerged beyond the vent tube or that the vent tube is missing and therfore water was allowed to infiltrate into the differential. I run 75w140 and have never had any type of water in mine so I personally do not buy the it's the nature of the beast with 75w140 that's a bunch of hogwash. I still believ it is the clutch packs in the differential and think you should find another dealer and insist that it shudders terribly when going around turns froma stop and let them know you are sure it is the clutch pascks in the LS then they will at least think you know what you are talking about and are more likely to say yeah you were right the clutch pack was bad. Sometimes you have got to make them think you know more than they do or that at least you know enough about vehicles that you cannot be swindled. If you had water in there they should have replaced those clutch packs anyway

As someone mentioned previously I'd pick up some Fricton Modifier. My truck was shuddering after I flushed the rear end, which at the time I didn't know was a LS, I looked on here and read about the modifier from ford. Dumped some in, problem solved cheaply!
