Question What are my choices for posi or LS?

I know that I can either get the Eaton or Auburn posi, but they just seem to be a little high priced for me. I dont really feel like spending $500 for just the unit. Can I just get a ford LS somewhere? If so, then where?

I need to know my options, I need gears and an LS or posi, but I dont feel like spending 1000-1200 for all of it.

offroadmaniac,
You can get the Eaton unit from Randy's ring and pinion for about $375. I got the gears from Summit Racing. If you want to save some money then learn how to do the install yourself. I caution you, know what your doing before you start and make sure you have access to some of the pullers and special tools like Inch # torque wrench before you start. I was going to post my experiance with installing my gears and Eaton unit but it did not seem like too many were interested. This is something most don't do on their own.

Thanks for the info. Yea, 375 is much better. How much can i get the gears for? What else do I need with the gears? I think I can get the install done for $250.

Is it an 8.8? If it is you can get the factory limited slip carrier for about $250 wholesale at your local dealer.

Actually it's a 9.75. I was thinking about doing that, but not sure where I could get one. I would probably be better off with the Eaton though.

The price I gave you was for the 8.8. You can call Randy's at Randys ring and pinion and get a price on the 9.75. It shouldn't be much more. I can't help with the gears. Don't really know much about the selection.

I would get the gears from www.4wpw.com they offer a lifetime warranty on all there gears and they are reasonably priced and good quaility. Randy's Ring and Pinion is also a good place. And just so you know a Posi and LS are the same LS is Ford's name for it while Posi is Ch*** name for it then ther is a true Locker which is something else all together they are not very street friendly though.

I actually just got a quote from Randy's ring and pinion. It is about 650.00 for gears, eaton posi, and install kit.

Is that pretty good?

Is that for front and rear gears or only the rear? You more than liely know this however I am going to say it anyway You do know that you have to also replace the front gears if you are changing the rear right? I don't mean to imply anything I just simply want to make sure you understand that because some people don't. That seems to be a fairly good price you should also call www.4wpw.com and see what they will give it to you for they say they will beat anyones prices in all there adds.

My truck is a 2wd. So only for the rear. I traded my mom trucks awhile back. So the 4x4 is still around for me to work on. That's why you'll see me asking questions for both trucks.lol

Oh, and I just looked on www.4wpw.com and they don't have any gears for the 9.75 rear end.

I actually called them too. All they have for the 9.75 are 4.10 and 4.56 gears. I'm wanting to go with 3.73. I asked them what their price for the auburn was also, and they said something like $530. That's pretty high. A local shop around here quoted me like 100 less than that. Oh well, I guess I 'll just go with Randy's ring and pinion. Thanks for all of your help.

What gears are you currently running ? If you are running a3.55 going to the 3.73 really isnt going to be that much of a differance and in my opinion is not benificial enough to justify the cost I me4an you are only talking about a .25 percent increase over the 3.55's . Just my opinion like I said I myself would not do that swap. I have the 3.55's now and need to step to the 4.10's myself to gain back the performance I lost wehn going to 33's tires. Like i said 4wpw claims they will beat anyones price you need to call them on that I would.

Actually, I currently have 3.31 gears. If I had 3.55, I wouldn't mind staying with them. But, I definitely need a posi. 4wpw doesn't have the Eaton unit, which is what I want. Since im installing an ATI, I need a little more low end grunt.
