Unhappy crack on foward cross support on frame

I have a 81 ranger f150 4x4 with a lift kit
there is a crack on the foward cross support
on the left side near the steering box.It has
been repaired once by a prior owner,a plate
was welded over the crack which cracked where
the existing crack was.Has any body had or
heard of this problem and any sugestions on
a fix.

Lift kits and steering linkage mods are notorious for putting extra strain on your steering box, causing frame flexing and, ultimately cracking. I don't know about your particular application, but I would have a good spring or front end shop take a look at it to determine the cause of the excess stress. If you just weld the frame and don't fix the source of the problem, it will recur.
