Post Guage Clusters (Tach)

Hello all, maybe someone can help me. I found a tach guage cluster out of a 92-97 F-250 with a tach, I would like to fit it in place of the cluster in my 1989 F-150. The cluster on the 89 doesnt have a tach, and the odometer is a 6-position version(not electronic).

does anyone know if it would hook up correctly or with slight modifications? I have been looking for one for quite awile, and this one has 139,000 miles. The truck has 135,000, Ill wait till I am closer.

Isn't the speedometer on the 92-96 F-Series also electronic with no speedometer cable? A friend had a 92 F-250 worktruck and after a couple of months, one day on start-up the speedometer suddenly climbed to 85 mph and the odometer display read "error". I could be wrong about it being electronic though.

It is electonic. I am not sure that the older truck's cluster is electronic, I may have to look into that!

I think that the 89 instrument cluster is mechanical. I've seen the speedometer on an 88 jump around and make noise on a cold morning in need of speedometer cable grease like my 89 Mustang used to do. I saw an episode of Shadtree Mechanic where they were putting a new electronically controlled transmission in an older Chevy motor home. They had to buy an adapter that mounted on the output shaft of the transmission so that they could hook up the older mechanical speedometer. I wonder if they make an adapter to hook up an electronic speedometer to an older transmission? Might get expensive. If I'd known it might be useful one day, I would have paid closer attention to the name of the company that made the adapter. It may not even be availiable for Fords. You know how the Chevy guys get a better selection of aftermarket parts. Ain't fair is it! O well, hope this helps.
