Question 4X4 Does not engage

I have a '97 F-150 supercrew. The 4X4 will not engage. I replace the electronic shifter moter and now I can hear the transfer case engaging but I still have no 4-wheel drive. Any suggestions.

Is the 4x4 light on? Does it go into 4Lo?
It could be the front axle is not engaging.
put it in neutral with the parking brake engaged and try to turn the front drive shaft. It should not turn.

Yes the light does come on and no it will not go into 4lo either. I will try to do the parking brake trick and see if that gets me any ideas. Thank you!

Drive the truck with it in 4 low to determine if the T-case shifted into 4Lo. If it feels like it went into Lo try the drive shaft trick. It may well be that the front axle is not engaging.

My money is on the actuator on top of the front axle. I have a 1997 F-150 and that's what my problem is. The transfer goes into 4wd but no power is ever put to the front axle.

2 97 F-150's
one modded
one not
