Question whining noise??

I've noticed a whining nose when driving down the road. At first, I chucked it up to be the tires. However, when I release my foot off the gas the humming stops. Then, starts back up when I continue pressing on the gas. Could it be a U-Joint?
Thanks!

If the noise starts at around 40 mph, then its probably your differential bearings. Might want to get it diagnosed, however its not a really serious problem.

drivetrain noise

I have a 98 f150 and i have the same problem. Does the noise get higher and higher pitched as you speed up? Go under the truck and see if you can move the driveshaft around where it connects to the rear end. You will need a little muscle, but if it moves, the nose bearing is probably worn out. I am having my rear completely rebuilt in about a week. Hope you figure it out.

You can buy complete differential rebuild kits on eBay for 75-80 bucks. But you will probably want to have a pro do the rebuild, cause i think you need special tools to do the job.
