2007 Ranger 2.3L CEL

I got a P0128 code this morning while driving to work. I looked it up and it appears that the code is a faulty thermostat.

No big deal, i'll change it.

BUT, i just spoke to a friend of mine that is a Ford Master Mechanic and he told me the ECU needs to be reprogrammed.

While searching for more info i came along this site that says that this code is a TSB.
http://www.tsbdata.com/tsb/2007-ford..._3l-vin-d.html

My friend said that TSB's arent free (if not under warrenty, which im not)and that they couldnt tell me if it needed to be reprogrammed or the actual thermostat is bad.

So do i put a thermostat in it for 36bucks or have it reprogrammed?

BTW i normally run around 165-175 and this morning it was 159. So yes its running cooler as if the thermostat is stuck open but we are only talking 6* difference from normal.

Boy did i have a scare. I went to Ford to get a new T-Stat. While i was there i was talking to one of the mechanics there. He said i'll reflash your computer while your here for some beer money. I say sure, so i went to my truck and returned it back to stock and we go to the back and he started reflashing it and then says "oh ****, failed ECM" after 30mins of trying all kinds of things he tells me my computer failed and that the SCT must have done something to cause it and wont let Ford reflash it. So now the truck wont even crank. I know the SCT programmer has nothing to do with this but since its a "side" job there really isnt much fight i have. So we start pushing the truck off to the side, and i start walking inside to order a new ECM. I sent a text to another friend that works at Ford and he said try reinstalling the SCT. Well i did and it cranked right up. No issues what so ever. Went and got a T-Stat changed it and everything is all well now.

All the reflash does it gives the computer more time to allow the truck to warm up before throwing a CEL. Which to me isnt a fix, its a bandade. The fix is to change the damn T-Stat. So Ford almost cost me whatever a computer cost for a MFing bandade when the FIX is only 35 bucks.

FYI, Im running 185-190* now.
