A Jewel.

24v DOHC V6 designed by Yamaha. Redline (minus accessories) over 8,000 rpm.

Smoooooth as silk. In it's day, a very fast mill, actually tested by some folks to walk a 5.0L H.O stang once above 80 mph or so.

Factory redline is only 7200-7300 for the Gen 1 and Gen 2s....

I'm on my thrid one right now, only 220K miles on it and the engine still is smooth as can be.

My last one was an 89 and was the source of my screenname. Bought it for $200, put another $2500 into it and got it up to 250K before spinning a rod bearing....

Just out of curiosity did the driver of the WS6 know he was racing you? Is it possible that while along side of him you decided to take off, then he got tired of it, down shifted, and waxed your a$$???

Just wondering because I get all kinds of cars who have walked me on the interstate simply because I was either unaware that a reace was going on or just did not feel like wasting my fuel on them.

I remember seeing a dissertation on the raw longblock, minus all the damned gadgets like A/C compressors, etc- redline was in the 8,000 rpm range - enabling stratospheric rpms is something that Yamaha knows a couple things about, lol.

Yeah, it's all the Ford bolt-ons that caused them to install the rev limiter into the PCM's software. It has been regularly removed by aftermarket tuners.

ohyea it was my buddy we were driving to cedar point.. the TA was in 6th and my sho was in OD.. we were jsut cruising looked at each other and both floored it.. we jumped and then the SHO started to pull.. after about 1 min when the SHO started to pull half a car, he got bored DS to 4th and took off.. needless to say i tried catching him but after the sho hit 120 and the TA cant pullin bus lengths i gave up..

What about the newer V8 SHO's from the late 90's. How do they perform.
