Not nearly as fast or powerful as the V-6's.

The V-6 (auto or stick) would stomp on the V-8 anyday.

Why waste your time? I've driven both and the V-6 has much more power.

They were cutting edge for their time, the engine really was revolutionary for the late '80s. They're oddballs nowadays though, not especially easy to work on with ungodly expensive parts.

X2 Quintin,
I had an 89 with an intake, maf, pulleys, bushing kit, borla, brakes, and other asst mods... it was a blast in the early 90's, there was not much that could touch it... nowadays, it might get smoked by an Altima.
I was putting in a new clutch about every 25K miles...
and O2 sensors? I was replacing them monthly...
The Brakes could not handle the heat and until I upgraded I was replacing those every couple of months.
I spent about 12K in maintenance in 100K miles (not counting mod costs). I learned lots of lessons on that car... still miss it, man could that Yamaha engine throw that car around.

Don't break anything on one. They are impossible to get parts for. A very large % of the engine parts are obsolete. They are just as bad as trying to find parts for a Probe.

The sho was a hot car, even for its day, and today thiers is not a lot of FWD that can come close, the best feature of the sho was that it did not have a Ford engine.
The v/8 versions were dogs and Ford really messed up with the taruis/sable, the older ones still look better than the 500 and las years Taruis.

Ford had some awsome ideas back in the 80's, perhaps the sho was to much for the mustang, hell even the mustang with a turbo 2.3 lt was pushing 175 h/p 130 mph.

oh well ...

I've always seen a Taurus here and there with a V8 badge and wondered WTF. I never knew anybody with one so I was never able to take a look at one until a few months ago. My brother bought one. I don't know if I rather work on it myslef or pay an ungodly amount for the dealer to fix it.

The older SHO with the Yamaha V6 and manual tranny is respected by many enthusiast who know about the car. It was a Giant killer in it's day, not like the Buick Grand National level, but it would surprise the occasional muscle and sports cars of those days.

The newer SHO with the V8 automatic only was kinda like a bigger heavier GT car, and never gained much love.
