well spank my monkey!

oh well, didn't mean to rain on anyone's parade. I tried to do a search for other EXPLORER forums with no luck! well actually YAHOO's list has this forum on top of it.....so there......

I think it will go low to mid 7's in the eight mile. My main goal is to have a reliable bracket racer that can pull the front Tires at will!

and to the mOron that called me an idiot.......I hope you dont kiss ya mama with that mouth. WORD!

I would gander to say its becuase making an explorer perform is like trying to get 50MPG out of a blown navigator. (and I think I know a little about that) Really though, its hard to get performance out of the OHV explorer, I have tried on three different ones. They just weren't built for speed back in the day. The newer ones are capable of some good stuff, IMO the best were the 5.0's if you really wanted a performance SUV. The other forum is the best place to go, or if there is something you want to know I'll aid you as best I can, email me at stang99x@yahoo.com I also spent alot of time at explorerforum.com and there are some very knowledgeable guys there. Best of luck on this endeavor

this is a great forum with a ton of people who will know how to fix anything on Fords including an exploder.
But since you are making a racer out of it you'll be better going to a race orientated forum.
i recommend : http://bbs.hardcore50.com/vbulletin/index.php even though is for mustangs the guys there know their chit.

to make the exploder move down the track it will need to go on a diet.
What are you planning to do to it? I don't see too many Exploders at the track so it will be different.

Sounds like an interesting project.I'm all for fast cars, trucks and hybrids. However,I don't own a fast truck yet. What are you going to put in it for an engine/drivetrain?It's going to take nearly 500hp to get an Explorer into the low to mid 7s in the 1/8. About your goal for reliability, pray, keep your fingers crossed, and hang a rabbits foot from the mirror.Nearly 500hp isn't going to be easy on the drivetrain.Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

You may want to try Explorerforum.com. There use to be a guy on there with a blown '96 Explorer V8, and pictures can be found at http://www.speedfreak.cc. I'm not sure if anything else has been done to it in a while since I haven't been on in quite a while, but back when I was in college, it was running in the 10's in the 1/4 mile.

thanks to all that had meaningful comments......I truely appreciate it.

for those that act as if they are in a chevy forum.......I'm sorry to hear you are ford guys!

smeezy......my mother is dead.......and I dont appreciate you calling me an idiot nor talking about my mother....senior memembers should have a little more patience with newcomers (not rookies)......oh well I guess every forum has a few of you! .....

I don't see it taking 500 hp to get into the 7's in the 1/8 mile??? If at all possible I'll get the weight down to around 3000 to 3200 lbs....that should only take about 300-350 hp to get into the sevens...especially since the track I was refereing to was Mobile International dragway....its 60ft shorter than a normal 1/8 mile track, guess I should have mentioned that part!

I plan on either a 302 roller engine with GT-40 heads, V-8 explorer intake upper and lower EFI (mass air mustang EFI harness with A9L computer) with C-4 automatic. gears will be 4.56's min. with straight exhaust..........and for those of you that care to follow this build you can view it at
http://www.geocities.com/xtremben then go to the harper racing forums....pictures will be posted as early as this coming up weekend.

the traffic over at the explorer forums isnt all that! ..........so it may be also viewed soon at the hardcore50 board that someone mentioned earlier!
thanks guys
Jack
