91 ranger problems
91 ranger problems
I have a 91 ranger with arond 190 something thousand miles and lately its been running like total crap. First of all its been really slugish and jerky when going at highway speeds or mildly acclerating. Once you punch it and get in the higher rpms it runs fine. (sorta) well its been running rich (black smoke on fender). I can handle the slugish ride and the black smoke but the past week it has started killing even when going at highway speeds itll kill out and since its a manual i guess it strats back up from the momentum. This problem seems to be worse when going over bumps. I went over a old wooden bridge and the thing bucked and surged the whole time the check engine light was flashing.
This happens everytime i hit a bump itll kill out then start back up. I ran some cleaner through the engine and it seemd to run a little better but i still have that problem of it killing out when going over bumps. I changed the fuel filter a few days ago also no go. When i ran the codes at auto zone it came up as
egr
and under that was some codes for some coils. Looks like i may end up having to put it in the shop but hate to do that becouse the truck isnt worth but 300 bucks and its going to cost more than that to fix it. And i hate the damn thing but its my only way back and forth to school (100 mile round trip) ....
also i checked the battery and it isnt hiting the hood. So i dunno what the problem could be. I was considering since it has so many miles just getting a new motor (the body is in excelent shape) but its really too small and not worth it imo.
