'03 Mountaineer with V-8. PROBLEMS????
Hey there everybody. I wasn't sure where else to go since this is a Mercury matter. I bought a new Mountaineer earlier this year ith AWD and the V-8. As it was stock, it shifted very crisp and quick while the engine was very respnsive but wouldn't quite chirp the tires. I then decided to build my own open element K&N air filter and put a "true" dual exhast. This vehicle (like my '99 F150) had what it seemed was 3 catalytic converters. I cut the 3rd one off with the "Y" pipe and ran 2 1/4" exhaust back with 2 Flowmaster 40 series.
Here is my problem. There are times when I'm taking off from a stop and it really holds second gear. Almost to the point of redline. And this is only with alil throttle. Plus it doesn't shift near as crisp as before. I was wondering whether or not I opened the air up way too much, or if that 3rd catalytic had something to do about it???
When I did all of this to my '99 F150 with the 5.4, it really helped, but this '03 4.6 feels like it's not benefited in the least. What gives?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

No, I haven't tried that yet. I guess it's worth a shot. Couldn't hurt I imagine. Do you think the reason why is because I'm allowing too much air to the engine and the MAP sensor doesn't like it?
