You probably have a bad switch on one side.

I went out and looked at mine..there are no visible switches of any kind on the door or frame of the cab. The ONLY thing I can think of is the plastic (for 2000) "arm" that is in between the top and bottom door hinges. It disappears into the door frame when the door is closed and this just might trigger a switch of some kind.

Nope. It's part of the latching mechanism inside the door.

97s still had the old push switch in the door jam. I ussually put my foot on mine when i am sitting with the door open to shut off the buzzers. Sparky for what you described I'd say you have got a bad switch for sure.

PS398: Interesting. My '97 had the internal switch. I wonder if yours was an early build model? I think mine was built in 11/96.

My switch is apparently connected to the latch mechanism. There is no visible push button anywhere. I guess its time to take the covers off & find out for sure.

I had this problem on my 97 when I bought it used from the dealer last year. My 97 also has no visible switches in any of the doors. In any case, I took it back to the dealer (happened a couple days after I bought it) and they looked at it and had to replace "one of the internal switches". Hasn't happened since...

The door switch is part of the latch itself. If you go to the Ford dealer, they are told to try and spray brake cleaner in there first before they will go ahead and istall new door latches. If you are under warranty it is free. If not, the door latches are $17.00/ pair and two hours worth of labor.

Dennis, you are right mine was one of the first 97s. It does have an external switch. According to door sticker built 04/96.

I found out taday that my truck still has switches inside the door. they are not wire up any more. Called the dealership and then the original owner who explained why. They had 3 set of switches installed and they all failed after about 3 to 4 months. A freind of theirs owns a body shop and installed a set in the door jamb and no problem since. I never gave it any thought until now. Go figure.
