Question New fix for roof water channel cracking?

A friend of mine just picked up his new 2000 F-150..build date of 10/22/99. He bought the supercab, flareside. I was looking it over when I noticed that his water channels on the roof were much different than my truck (build date of 10/4/99).

They had some kind of a hard material in them which somewhat filled in the channels which progressively became thicker moving towards the rear of the cab on both sides. At the back of the cab, the channels are almost completely filled in and flush with the roof top. This material is painted to match the color of the truck. This is straight from the factory!

Has anyone else noticed this?

My 98 supercab F-150 developed the cracking in the water channels...is this possibly the 'fix' from FORD??

That's exactly what's in mine. It's some kind of semi-hard (maybe rubberized) filler, put on before the paint job. I haven't compared this to older models. What does yours look like?

------------------
2000 XLT Black Sport, Flareside, 2WD, Ext. Cab, 5.4L Auto. Other factory options: 3.55 LS, Class III tow, 6-way Captains chairs w/CD changer, Remote entry , and Slider window.
Mods: Undercoat, window tint, headlight & tail light covers, removed "Sport" decals, upgraded Triton tailgate emblem, Linex spray-in bedliner, and an ARE LSII lid.
Wish list: Flowmaster duals, K&N FIPK, and a Belltech 3/4 drop.

Selva1,

I do not have anything in mine! Mine is just like my 98..so I would assume that it will be subject to the cracking. I will be getting with my dealership to find out more about this!

I just noticed that your truck is a SPORT..so is my friends....mine is NOT a sport. His truck was manufactured at the Kansas City plant..mine was made at the Norfolk plant. Interesting....

My build date is the week of 10/4/99 what is yours? Looks like I just missed this fix!! I wonder if a FORD recall is coming soon?? I am not going to hold my breath though.

Also, when you say.."upgraded Triton tailgate emblem"..what does that mean? I have noticed several other posts about this.

Dustoff:

My "schedule" date was October 4th, and arrived at the dealership on the 14th. It's possible that it's not the date that makes the difference, but the plant. Mine came from Ontario.

Here's the deal on the tailgate emblem: Every F-150, regardless of trim level or engine size, gets a plain old "F-150" emblem on the tailgate. A popular switch is to replace it with one that matches the ones on the fenders, in my case, it's the "F-150 XLT Triton V8" emblem. If your interested, search the older posts for details. There is info regarding part numbers, removal methods, etc. This site is definitely a great source of info.........
