Paint woes...
Paint woes...
I painted the front section of my hood last week because it was in pretty bad shape... I have not applied the clearcoat yet as it has been raining the last few days...
The problem is that the paint i used was a tad creamier (color) than the oxford white color of my truck.... i used the correct paint from ford...
It's unnoticable from 10 feet away but as you move closer you can see the differencein colour
Will applying the clearcoat lighten the colour up a little bit so it exactly matches the rest of the truck or am I stuck the way it is...???
Is there anything else I can do?

Hi Colin
As you already found out...colors dont match...I dont think the clear coat is going to make much difference.
You would be really lucky...if you got paint to match exactly the color of an older truck, unless it was custom blended (matched).
Test a real small area with the clear coat...theres your answer.
Good luck....OT

As old timer said the clear will probably not help but if
you end up trying again remove your gas tank door and
take it to your paint jobber and let them mix it to match
using the part you brought in as referance this usually
works, The factory pac colors from the dealer are not
all that reliable.

the gas cover isea is fantastic, I have to remember that.
As far as painting, my opinion is paint the whole thing or paint none of it. Even if the new paint is the exact original batch from the Ford assembly plant paint shop, the older existing paint is faded, oxidized etc.
Cave in and paint the rest of the truck. It'll be like having a brand new truck.
