I have a 2011 FX4 SCrew with a tale gate step, and that thing is constantly making a squeaking noise every time I hit the smallest bump going down the road, and it just bugs the **** out of me.

Any advice on how/where to lubricat or grease this thing? Can it be stopped? Haha, Thanks.

 

Correction, it's not the tailgate step, it's the tailgate latch on the left side. Any advice on where to lube/grease?

 

I think you might have access to all moving parts of the latch assembly if you take the plastic cover off the tailgate. Then I'd just spray all parts where metal moves against metal with lithium grease.

I'll give it a try. it's where the latch grabs the stud on the bed, but I can't tell exactly where its coming from. I'll give I a try though. Thanks again Jack.

Todd, it might be where the latch rotates, or, where the rod from the handle in the tailgate applies force to move it. Either way, I think you'll have access to it with the cover off.

And, I WOULD use grease and not oil, since the oil will dry out.

Found the culprit. There's a plastic sleeve that is over that stud where it latches and it rotates on that stud causing a squeaking sound on the washer or head of the stud (kind of like a how a turkey call works). It didn't grease the top of that sleeve, instead worked the grease down in the ends of it where's it's making contact and it completely silenced it. Quick easy fix with some lithium grease.
