Power windows not going down.

I'm having an issue with both power windows on a 98 F150. When the temperature outside drops below about 40F, the windows have a lot of trouble going down the first half, then work fine going down the second half of the way.

There is not an issue with them going back up, only down when it's cold.

I also noticed that when the cab warms up completely (around 45min of driving) I don't have the issue.

Last time it was warm, I re-greased the scissor lift track with stuff recommended by the mechanic at the dealer and cleaned out the track for the glass.

Any help is appreciated

Start with a heavy dose of silicone spray down each side of the felt track. You can pick up a can at any auto parts store, or perhaps even a local Walmart.

I guess I forgot to mention that I did that when I cleaned out the tracks. I used a higher quality spray after a re-conditioner, same as I did on the door seals to get them to settle right.

Like I said, it's fine after it gets about half way down, once the scissors cross over each other, and it has no trouble going up from a fully down position.

Sounds to me like it could be the grease in the mechanism is dried out.

Take the door panel off and spray all the pivot points with windex, then operate the window. The windex will loosen the grease with out removing it. If that works for you then clean and re-grease them as best you can.
