Paint touch up problem, help!

so I had a chip in my paint, and I bought one of the paint pen things to fix it so it didnt rust on me, I got it done, and it looks decent. so then I thought ill touch up some scratches I have, but I forgot to clean the scratches, so now I have black marks in the paint, and it is raised (not like an air pocket, but a glob of paint). Any suggestions on how to fix this?

EDIT: So before the game today, I searched the garage for some lacquer thinner, I found some methyl ethyl ketone, would this stuff work? I also have some paint thinner, will that work?

You might get lucky and be able to wipe it off/clean with some lacquer thinner. It wont hurt the existing paint but may loosen the touch up paint. It will remove any wax or sealant you have on the paint.

This is just the first thought I had, DON'T START SCREWING WITH IT UNTIL YOU GET MORE INFORMATION so you don't end up with a very expensive repair.

WARNING: I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL PAINT GUY AND THIS IS JUST A SUGGESTION!

If you don't get any better answers here try a detailer site for some other ideas. Meg's has a forum and even some of the site sponsors have forums.

Good luck, I feel for you.

Paint pens are not chemically hardened, and easily removed with thinner. As long as you don't leave the wet rag sit on the panel, it won't affect the existing paint, assuming its base/clear.

Go with the paint thinner. Keep it small, and only wet a fingertip section of the rag at a time. Wipe in circular motions. It should wipe of in seconds.

canadianelbow thanks for joining in on this one. I thought that the advise I gave was ok, but didn't want to help screw up some one else's paint. You being a body shop guy is just the kind of help the OP needed.

Thanks again, Jim

methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) worked great! took all of the paint pen stuff off with ease, even after I used the clear coat.
