Prep for bed liner
Prep for bed liner
Does anybody know what prep is needed for using some brand of bed liner across the bottom of my truck? Do I need to just scuff up the existing paint or completley strip it down? What about just using self etching primer then coat with my choice of bed liner? All help is needed
Sand it with a 320 grit paper. DO NOT BREAK THROUGH TO BARE METAL, and you will be fine. Simply make sure ALL the shine is gone. Breaking through isn't the worst case scenario, but if you do, then you will have to use a primer designed for bare metal, and sand the primer afterwards. Mask off the line you want, and use a RED scotch bright pad to scuff right along the edge.
After it is all masked off, run a second 3/4 inch or narrower line of masking tape directly on top of the masked edge. Try and get it perfectly on the old edge. Once it is sprayed, give it a few minutes to tack up, and peal the masked line of tape off. If you wait till it fully cures, you will likely not get the masking tape off cleanly. This final tape line allows you to unmask the edge, without having to unmask the paper. The paper tends to get bulky, and while wet, runs a major risk of ruining the work you just did by falling onto the freshly sprayed truck.
