Angry back glass seal

I have a problem that many F150 owner have and do not know about it. I have told several. The back glass on my 2000 F150 XLT sets inside a plastic trim, the trim is mounted between the glass and the cab of the truck, between the cab of the truck and the plastic trim is a foam rubber seal. This seal falls out of place and down between the plastic trim and the cab of the truck. Mine has been replaced 4 times since I purchased the truck in April of 2000.
I have contacted the dealer and each time the replacement is under warranty. I am trying to contact Ford and BOY AM I GETTING THE RUN-A-ROUND. This is almost enough to make me sorry for buying the truck. I even had the Customer Assistance Center tell me Ford did not care about me and there was no one they could forward my complaint to. Up to this point I just wanted to make sure that Ford would continue to fix the problem after the warranty runs out, but now I either want that or a buy back offer. I love the truck but the company is ruining my satisfaction.
Please check your truck and if you have the same problem then let your dealer know and get it fixed. If enough of us have this problem then maybe Ford will come up with a permament fix.

Thanks
Richard

Smile Back glass foam seal

I am as particular as anyone about my truck and I noticed mine loose last year. I removed it and flodded that area with water and there was no leaks. I can't really tell any difference being with or with out that foam gasket. The truck looks just as good without it. This may fall under the category of " the repair is worse than the problem" Sooner or later when the dealer replaces one they will scratch something else and you will wish you left it alone.

I was told that the seal performed no real function other than cosmetic. I replied the paint is only cosmetic. My truck sets outside and when we have the slow rain and it drops below freezing, with a blowing rain, then I am afraid the ice accumlations will cause more trouble. With the Ford phone center telling me they were not really concerned about me, that got under my skin. They have no problem taking my money and we are not buynig cheap automobiles. I still think this is something that they should fix.

I do how ever appreciate your input and am pleased to hear that without it no leaks were found. Thanks again

Richard

kb0vxu,

I've got the same problem. I just took mine to the dealer saturday to have them look at it.

But, I'm kinda like Bubbadewsky, I'm worried what they'll screw up trying to fix it.

I do have the advantage that I haven't yet filled out that customer satisfaction survey yet, although I wonder if Ford really even cares about those things - they've already got your money.

Unhappy ME TOO...

I noticed this on my new SCREW also. The seal looks like it is half in half out in some places. Gonna have them fix it when they fix the right rear door trim for the third time!!!!

Hey my seal on the Super Cab is like that too! The foam inbetween the cab and the plastic window liner is collapsed in some places, but I have pretty well decided to live with it if it is not vital to my trucks performance in the rain...

My seal is like that too. I have just decided to put off the replacement until it becomes a problem.

I have the same problem.... When I bought a new truck back in 1999 I had this problem and had them change it out only to have my new truck ruined ( long story) but after two paint jobs and more problems and weeks of negotiation I now own a new 2001.

Well guess what same thing on this truck and after roaming the lots and checking out all the lightnings and other new f150's they are all doing it,,,,,,,,So my recommendation is to complain to FORD and not your dealer.
At least get it documented by the sevice department and then call your dealer from time to time and see if they will run a check on their oasis sytem for a new updated part.............. I will not take the chance again on my new truck until they have a part that is far more superior than what we have on our trucks now..

I have a 2001 reg. cab. On the first trip back to the dealer to get some shipping scratches and lot dings cleaned up, I asked the bodyshop manger to look at the rear window seal. He said it looked like most of the others he had seen. There's a quarter inch gap between the trim and the cab; it runs almost the length of the window. It looks like a leak just waiting for some rain. The fit and finish is really good on the rest of the truck. Probably a good idea to let Ford know they got a problem with that seal, even if it's only an appearance problem. Next trip in I'll point it out to the service manager, and maybe even call the "Customer Resistance Center"

new seal??

I was at the dealer looking at a different vehicle. Ford and I have reached an agreement on the back glass trim seal. However I noticed on some 2002s that the seal is much larger. I have not asked the service department yet, but is the larger seal the replacement seal for all years or just some 2002 F150s?

My upper driver's side gasket slipped into the crack and was making the plastic trim warp away from the frame, only on the driver's side. Took it to the dealer and he said "yeah, they all do that". So we agreed it was a poor design and he ordered a new window assembly p/n 1L3Z-1542430-AAB. The rubber gasket on this new one extends past the plastic exterior trim 1/4-1/2" and snugs up nicely against the body, all the way around. Ran it through the carwash and no leaks yet, but I just got it done today. Still under warranty. Also had the radiator replaced because trans fluid was leaking on the lower radiator hose, and also had the driver seat cushion and cover replaced because a spring poked through the seat cover. Go warranty.....

I have the same problem on a 2000 f-150 non slider rear window. It has been in the shop 3 times and it still leaks. The last time it was in the shop they put a halo bezel molding part p/n 1L3Z-1842430-AAB. What chaps my a** is the fact that all they had to do was take a hose and wet the back window to find out if it was still leaking. But then again that would make sense. I got the same old story every time "its fixed" and guess what it wasn't even close. I was also told that if I brought my customer survey in to them I would get a free oil change. Its no wonder the have the highest customer satisfaction rating. This is only one of the many problems with my truck including tranny clunk, rough idle, engine ticking noise, loose seat belt mount, burned out dash light, oh and did I mention a leak. This is my LAST FORD product. Thanks for letting me vent....I feel a little better
