09-12 grille question

Is the 09-up grille a 2 piece design? A separate surround panel and a center section that can be removed? Or does this depend on which grille you have?

I just received my new grille from Tasca Parts and the grille is in 2 pieces. The surround is separate from the center. I have the OEM 2010 FX4 grille. It might depend on which model you get because the FX grilles require the surround to be painted.

I know that my factory grille on my 2010 FX2 was 1 piece. I had to cut the inner grille away from the grille surround to get my billet grille in.

OK I am learning a lot about 09 up grilles. I always felt the chrome grille was too big for the truck so I like a painted surround. My new question is:
if the grille surround is painted, does Ford make a chrome center for it or do I have to go to an aftermarket center to get chrome [or stainless, aluminum, billet, whatever]?

Well I currently have the lariat chrome edition grille on my truck and it is two pieces. I suppose I could put the chrome center into my painted surround. I think all the holes would line up for the hardware.

When you look on ebay or the like for billet grill options, they often will group compatibility for the XL, XLT, STX, and FX4. Some will even go so far as to say "this will not fit the Lariat". Logic says there must be a reason for this. I know my FX4 is 2 pieces. I've held them separately in my hands.
