97-03 Under Hood Insulation
97-03 Under Hood Insulation
Is the underhood insulation solely for noise reduction and possibly fire blanket or does it have anything to do with the hood paint?
I have the Lund medium hood scoops with a coating of Line-X Xtra, so I pulled the insulation and drilled (2) 1/8" holes through the hood via one of the factory drilled holes in the cross brace. I did this to vent the sealed off scoops for temperature cycles.
It's funny, before Line-X I could hear my intake "whistle" under hard accel. and the injectors ticking, but afterward it was just dead silent. Now that the insulation is off, I can hear everything better than I could before. Most people wouldn't want this, but I'm all about it.

If I was running a blower I might feel the same way, but I can do without hearing all that other stuff. I like cracking the window to hear my exhaust tho
EDIT: Didn't answer your question lol. I believe it's just a sound insulator Jackal. The 01's had them on the firewall as well. My 98 had niether, -I added one to the hood tho.

I read from other forum stating 3 reasons:
1. sound reduction
2. heat insulation from the paint on the hood.
3. fire blanket.
Well, not too many people know what hood insulator pads is a useful thing for our car's hood. Just like my Greiner, it blocks the heat coming from the engine, preventing the high temperatures from affecting the hood's paint job.
