painting "grille insert"

hey y'all, i hav a white 06 fx4. what i presume is the grille "insert" (piece with the blue oval on the front of the truck" was painted white by the previous owner of the truck. however, i saw another white f15o that had a black insert that i thought looked good. i would like to remove and paint this insert but it doesnt seem possible without breaking the grille or clips that hold it in, if y'all have any suggestions or pointers please share them, thanks!!

I don't know about the grille's on the 06's but my 98, I just taped everything off like the Blue Oval, and chrome...Then I used flat black and painted away...It actually turned out better than I thought it would!!

I just painted the insert on my truck, Used Krylon Fusion for plastic, it works great! prep the area as need first, make sure its clean and dry, and if it's already been painted then you may need to sand the area so the paint will stick?? not sure. Mask everything in the area well to avoid overspray. Mine turned out great!
