I was hosing down the underhood areas today and discovered that what washed down from the firewall and the corners around the hood hinges goes down and collects at the bottom of the fender. There's a panel behind there so the crap that washes down stays in there. I got some heavy solder wire that I was able to fish some of it out from the door opening side.
Any suggestions as to how to keep this potential rust area free of stuff.

 

Surely, some of you guys that go off roading must get the mud out of this area. How do you do it?
Living in the rust belt with salt on the roads in winter, I can foresee this as a real problem if not flushed out routinely.
