My rear slider is sqeaking and driving me nuts!

04 FX4, 16k miles

I have not gotten someone else to drive and gotten back there yet to investigate. It seems solid but squeaks while driving.

Anybody else experience this problem? If so how did you resolve.

I HAAAATTTTTTE interior noises. I'm at the point where a tire iron and a solid window is starting to sound like a good idea.....

Help me save my window from myself.....

Just get some of the silicon spray used for rubber door/window seals and spray it on the moldings. Should clear it up.

I've been putting up with the same problem for 3 years. What kind of spray do you recommend (product name) and where can I find some.

There are multiple brands out there, no preference as long as it is silicon spray. You can usually find them at any auto parts store, and quite probably at Walmart.

I have a squeak that a little water-resistant grease clears up for about 1/2 year.

It's the outside rubber window molding rubbing the paint on the cab at the bottom of the window. I usually try to pry that up a little and put some grease down.

If thats your squeak, this may help.

I just put a small piece of loop velcro over the part that the clasp grips to lock it. Never heard that annoying noise again.

Before I go squirting lubes everywhere I got back there and played around with the window a bit. To push, pull, poke at it it's as tight as a drum. I pulled the headrests up a bit and it seemed to go away for a day so I think that's just in my head. I'll check the weather stripping on the outside now.

If anyone has a TSB link I'd like to see it. Maybe I can talk the dealer into fixing it.

Well, it's outside of a year so Ford won't fix it free. Thank you Ford.

Several glass places have told me its a simply a bolt in window with a butyl surround and once you pull the panels away the bolts are exposed. You can then loosen them and the window comes out enough that more butyl tubing can be inserted around the frame and the window reinstalled. I wonder if it's really this easy. I'm going to find out.

By the way, the only TSB I could find on the rear window is for the power lowering one. Mine is just the slider.

Damon,
Thanks for tracking down the info. I plan to take a closer look this weekend. This will be the 3rd interior rattle I've had to fix. Luckily, they have all been pretty simple fixes so far. Let us know how your fix goes...

IT WORKED!!

I was able to pick up a can of CRC Heavy Duty Silicone at Wal Mart. I used a small 45 degree awl I had to pull the back seal away from the truck while spraying the silicone between the seal and the truck as I went around. The squeak that was very evident before (you could tell by just pushing it) was gone and you can't hear a thing driving now. Now we just have to see how long it lasts, but it'll take a lot of $4 cans of spray to equal the $100 appointment I had next week to have the window pulled out and re-installed....

Good news.
