I have a family member who just had their bag replaced last week at the dealership. (wanted to be sure it was done properly). It cost her around 700. Now, this was an older vehicle so I don't know if that will make a difference. Good luck.

You will also need the module that stores crash info in it, either find a new one, or even cheaper, have it sent out to be reset. I believe myairbags.com charges only $55.00 and that includes shipping back to you.

THAT is crazy.. and I cannot imagine any shop doing this.. holy freaking lawsuit. Seriously, there is no way that the person that got into the accident could NOT win a multi-million $ lawsuit for a shop doing that.

Regarding this topic, can I just put my own two cents in and say, man, get the freakin' airbags replaced if you even sort of have the means.. credit card, whatever. Maybe you don't and then I'm sorry for your situation.. But this is one of those things you don't push of for a year or two down the road. One bad accident, and your a parapeligic cause you didn't want to put a few hundred or even a thousand bucks on a credit card.. yeah, that's dramatic, but a worst case scenario would be awful, and I think anyone would agree. Sure, older cars never had them, but guess what, newer ones do, and they are safer -- so if you can do it at all, I think its a good idea.

About the windshield, I've never heard of a full coverage glass insurance going up because of a claim or two.. I've actually made about 8 windshield claims on my insurance in the past 8 years -- seems like I get nailed by a rock kicked up by the car in front of me on the highway every winter.. And i've never faced an increase, or even the insurance agent batting an eye -- always very straightforward and simple. I have allstate, if that matters, but I have to imagine they are all the same these days.. Be *creative* with your story.. don't lie, just be creative. They will ask when and how it happend.. Tell them you hit a really big bump on an unfamiliar back road, and a small hairline crack started and got bigger.. that sounds about like your story right??!!

Good luck

im with nytrader. find a way to have this done correctly. you say 13% on a card? depending on your credit you can get a much better rate then that. one good thing about this housing/credit crunch we have now is banks are really lowering rates. dont want to turn this into a financial thread but... something to think about.
