I am having problems with the device that lowers the spare tire to the ground. Went to check the air pressure in spare had problems lowering tire to ground,, end of tire iron fits into cable device hard and is hard to turn. I did get the tire off and put in bed of truck, did not put tire back on cable to put back up, just rolled it up,took half hour to get up, now it will not come down at all..Getting ready to make 2000 mile trip, so spare tire is in bed of truck for now. Had spare down one other time several years ago no prob.. Like to know what I am looking at to get this reparied and what the cost will be.. .Truck 02 SCREW .. Any help thanks

 

Identical situation to my own. Personally, that's a horribly flawed design. The best suggestion I've heard yet is to have the "key" welded to the "lock". I think the spare tire mechanism would work great, but I'm sure this would entail removing the bed of the truck to weld the key. Anxiously awaiting a better response to this problem, as my spare is still riding in the back of the truck.
