Tailgate

I'm apoligize in advance for any mistakes I make. I'm new to the forum.

We had a axcedent with my 2004 Ford F-150 Lariat 4wd today and it dented the tailgate and cause major paint damage. I was wondering what the best thing to do. Can we just buy the skin or do we have to buy the whole tailgate? And do you recommend any place? What we thought we do is order the tailgate then go to the local paint shop and let them paint it. Do you have any other suggestions? And what would be a fair price to have this work done?

Sorry if I didn't give enough info, If you need any more I'll get it.

Thanks in advance!

I'm sure this will come up 1,000 times and it depends on how you feel about it (i.e., my father would never do this), but check around at junk yards. A tailgate can be swapped rather quickly and if it's a decent paint match (no serious fading/scratches, etc.) it can be a much cheaper alternative to buying a new one or having yours repaired.

Just my .02.

a 2004 might be a bit hard to find (generally 7-14 years is the sweet spot for junkyards) but I agree.
