Painted Mirror Skull Caps

Is there a cheaper way to get the painted skull caps of the 2007 model year F150s without purchasing the entire mirror assembly?

Is anyone aware if these can be purchased separately from Ford and "stuck" on or swapped out?

I've got an '05 Copper King Ranch and would like to have the skull caps to match the body, but am not interested in giving up and arm, leg, and first born child to have these on my truck.

It is funny you should ask this question... I took it upon myself to do this "trick" myself and it came out sweet. It looks factory. Check out my Gallery by clicking the little camera above. I prepped the mirrors myself using 220 dry and 1200 wet grit sandpaper. I masked out the "skull cap" with masking tape so as not to sand anywhere i did not want to. Some people dont sand them first, they just paint them, and the end result is the paint has a textured look to it and some times the paint flakes from rocks. I preferred to sand it smooooth to ensure a good bond. Then after they were all smooth I removed the masking tape and washed them, dried em' and re-masked them with new tape and made sure the edge of the tape followed the line of the skull cap crisply. I did not want paint in the crack between the two halves. after they were masked I had my local bodyshop paint them basecoat Oxford White and clear coat. (The bodyshop should be able to find your paint code.) They covered the whole truck w/plastic sheet and just folded in the mirrors and sprayed em. Since I did the labor it only cost me 40$ for thier matierial costs and labor. I did get a little paint in the crack where the darn tape lifted a little and was able to scrape it out w/ an awl. A body shop may be able to do the whole thing for you if you want but I chose to do the prep myself. I hope this helps you out, it is certainly cheaper than new mirrors.

Something like this, sanded smooth as a babies bottom.

welfare wagon, any chance you have more shots of the mirrors from a distance at multiple angles? I am trying to figure out if I want the whole thing painted, or just half of it.

Thanks!

Here is all I have, check my gallery for other shots of the truck, not focused on the mirror itself.
