Fiberglass tonneau covers - opinions

I'm looking at getting a fiberglass tonneau cover for my '05 s-cab F150. I've looked at several--the Snuglid, the Snuglid SL, the ARE LSII, the Leer 700, and one from Topdeck whose model number I don't know.

My preferences are for one that clamps on, can be slammed and latched without using a key, and can be set up for keyless entry down the road. I'm currently leaning toward the Leer, but I haven't made up my mind yet.

I'd like to hear from owners of any of these lids--or any other fiberglass tonneaus that might fill the bill. What's your experience been like? What do you like or dislike about your cover?

Note that rollups and non-matching hard tonneaus like the Undercover are already out of the running--I'm only looking for a fiberglass top that will match my paint.

Snug lid SL.... I love the way this cover looks, and if i had 1k sitting around, that would be the first thing i spend it on...
Look at pictures of peoples snuglids on this site, i love how flat the cover is.

Snug Lid

I had a 2001 SCrew with a snug top, lid. Snug top builds the only lid, that wrapps around the curvature of the rear of a screw.

ARE gets my vote. Spend the extra $80 on the newer LS X model which fits our truck closer, snugger, and cleaner. Additionaly I had my local AUTO PAINT SUPPLY do a free paint scan ( Dupont) on my 04 . ARE has a good paint system however their factory paint match is not up to my standards. With the supplied paint scan "ARE" got the paint match bang on This took an additional week for the custom paint match and did not cost extra.

My vote goes to the ARE also. I really like the looks of it. I don't know how hard it would be to add the remote lock later though. I went ahead and ordered as an option when I got my cover. The dealer I went through wouldn't connect it, but the instructions were real simple and all the parts were there. I love being able to unlock the doors and the lid is unlocked also. One of these days I'll get it tied in with the alarm system....

whatever make you go with, make sure there is an edge trim/gasket. Otherwise the fibreglass will chip on the edges.

I've had the SnugLid SL on my '01 SCrew since the summer of '04. I would not buy this cover again. The cover looks great, don't get me wrong, but the slam latches are unreliable and don't hold their positioon very well. There is some adjustment in the latch hooks mounted to the siderails but it has never been enough to get the lid to sit parallel to the bed rail molding. Right now I have the front hinges as high as they will go and the rear catches as low as they will go and the lid still sits higher towards the rear than the front.

From day one I have been disappointed with the way the slam latches work. I frequently have to stand on the bumper, put the full weight of my upper body on the heel of my palm directly above the latches to get them to "click" securely. I've lubed them with graphite, LPS and Tri-Flow but nothing seems to work. Once they are latched, there is so much tension on the lock that it can be a bear to turn the key in lock to open it. I usually have to push down on the cover while turning the key to prevent the key from twisting off in the lock.

But what the heck, the Snuglid SL looks awsome!

Another ARE fan here. I am a bit partial though, I had an LSII on my ranger and loved it. I now have a LSX on my F150 and am happy with it so far. Keyless is the way to go, really comes in handy expecially when I don't have my key fob since I can use my keypad to unlock the cover. ARE is pricely though as you probably already know but it has a nice warranty. The other covers may have the same warranties but I haven't dealt with anyone else as of yet.
