I noticed the same air rush noise driving my new 2005 Supercrew home from the dealer. Outside air temp was about 30 deg.F, though I doubt that has anything to do with it. It was a windy day, but I'm not sure whether that was related either. I noticed it at highway speeds. It's relatively minor, but noticeable. Source of noise seemed to be the top center part of the windshield, like behind the mirror.

Noise at top of Windshield

Took my F-150 in this morning to my local Ford Dealer. These guys are real nice. I told my advisor of the problem and showed him copies of all of our complaints. He read all of them...had my Truck put in for evaluation and of course they didn't find anything wrong. I had already informed him that the noise only appears...Sometimes. He said that I have been the only person to make this complaint at this dealership. I at least have it on record...just in case the darn windshield falls inward or breaks. By-the-way- they annotated my worksheet that I have a Bug Deflector on the front and Rain deflectors installed on the windows. I told my advisor that those things didn't have anything to do with making a "rubbing noise" at the top of my windshield.

Same deal on brand new '06. I had '04 w/no issues. Same "FORD" bug shield as was on it. Same vent visors. Mine is worse depending on outside wind speed & direction. I'm gonna cover top left portion of glass/cab section w/tape & see if it makes any difference on test drive. It sounds like turbulence between cab & w/s. We'll see?

O.K.. Put 11/2" masking tape from center of w/s to door jamb across LH top. (covered w/s, cab gap)No noise. Removed & applied small section to cover LH corner only. No noise. Removed & left off completely. NOISE. Put 11/2" long piece of 1/2" foam tape under edge of trim flap going from corner toward rear of cab. No noise. I've driven about 60 miles since w/no noise yet.

FuzzyDP, is there any chance you could post a picture of what you are describing?

My 06 XLT scab has the same wind noise problem and it's starting to get on my nerves. I drove a rental 05 scab for about a month before buying mine and it did not have the noise. When I bought mine I drove 2 that were on the lot and noticed the noice within a minute of driving both of them so there is a real defect here.. I was hoping it would go away but that isn't working.

I'll get some pics & try to post. If you follow the plastic trim on left side pillar up, to where it meets the top left corner of windshield, you are in the right area. Trim has a little flap facing toward center of truck. Pull up on flap @ corner & install foam tape under it from corner intersection toward rear for 1" or so & give it a try. You can also do masking tape test first, to narrow down exactly where the problem is.

Did you guys check your interior vent selector? 'Coz, '05 F150 Supercrew has this selector which is not lever type (not like the typical) that can select air flow. It is a push button and only activates if I sturn the blower on. I wish I can send youn my dash photo to be more specific. Or you can check the vent closer if it is properly closed. I noticed it when I pass to some areas with this foul odor though I'm driving 35-40mph need to turn my blower and inetrior air circulation "ON".

Thanks FuzzyDP for posting the pictures.

I bought an '04 F150 last month with about 15K miles. During the test drive, I didn't notice any wind noise. But on our first interstate trip I noticed the noise when driving 70-75mph. It was about 15 degrees outside with a headwind. The noise seems to come from the top of the windshield on the passenger side. When it's loudest it sounds like driving into a hail-storm.

I took it to the Ford dealer and they told me it was the bug shield (NOT). The cowl in front of the windshield is also loose but the noise isn't coming from there.

I'm sure it's either the seal across the top of the windshield or the trim flap that you described. I'm going to try the foam tape fix.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I just bought a '05 Supercrew with 17k on it and it has the same wind/vibration noise coming from the top right corner at 65 + mph depending on wind speed and direction. I'm not even going to bother with the dealer after reading this thread. I will try the tape thing out. I wonder if some clear silicon would work after finding the exact spot?

you guys might want to start feeling your rugs for wetness...

if air is coming in i bet water is too. my '04 sc fx4 has been having leak issues for the last 5 months. third brakelight, winshield, airbox, battery box have all been removed and resealed and my rugs are still wet. i'm pretty bummed out about this truck. its got 34,000 miles and over 2 years old. i'm waiting for a return call from ford area rep and have an appointment at the dealer for wednesday. at this point i just want a new one.
