Ford factory tonneau covers

picking up my 4th Scab since 12/96 in a few days. have enjoyed (nothwithstanding the cold temperature issues) the "factory snapless tonneau" on the last two.

in particular, I really liked the way the side rails neatly clamped to the body, without those ugly aluminum clamps like the ones that held the caps on my Ford Rangers, before my F's.

the new dealer is not terribly astute about Ford Truck Accessories, so I ask:

- is there a current Ford snapless tonneau built like before, with the neat attachment system? what's the part number?

- any idea as to who built the old ones for Ford, and do they offer anything like that?

- if not the Ford product, what's the next best thing, in your opinion, for a well sealing vinyl tonneau?

the way I use my truck, I'll often peel the tonneau back to carry stuff, and then close it up. sometimes, more than once in a day.

not having anything sticking into the bed is somewhat important.

thanks in advance for your help!

Welcome to the site jm2 . Great site with lots of info.

Instead of getting Ford's accessory tonneau, which can be a PITA when trying to put it back on in the winter from what I've read, take a look at one of the roll up type tonneaus.

Access, Truxedo, Tonneaumaster, are a few of the manufactures whose tonneau rolls up with the bows included in a matter of seconds. Unrolling them also takes a matter of seconds and winter has no effect on the way they perform. They are a little more expensive that a regular tonneau but worth it for the convenience and the looks.

I've had both Access and Truxedo and liked the both very much. I have an Access on my current truck and have been very happy with it. There are a lot of threads and posts regarding tonneaus, fo a search for more opinions
