Cool No hassel outside mirror replacement!?!?!?!

NO WAY, I just called MUTH and told them about my mirrors and they are sending me a new set. They don't even want the old ones back or a deposit. No hassle, no fuss.
How great is that? Big Thanks to Raoul

Question

What was wrong with your mirrors? I have the signal mirrors, and they are scratched on the glass...the previous owner must have cleaned off some ice with an ice scraper. I checked with the dealership parts dept to see if you could order replacement glass, but they said you couldn't.

Hi litespd, here is where your mirrors came from:

http://www.kwmuth.com/

Many of us have had the silver backing fade in spots. It makes the mirror very cloudy. MUTH has replaced them for free (mine twice).

I'd be glad to hear that you don't have the spotting. That means there are some 'good' mirrors and maybe I've got some this time.

If you're mirrors are just scratched on the surface, it may cost you around $200 to replace.

Rare truck you have there, by the way. Ford stop making RegCab Lariat after '99.

Hi Raoul...thanks for the info. My mirrors appear to be scratched on the surface...BUT...they also have small black spots all over on them...the backing appears to be fading, as you have described above. I've printed out the messages on the mirrors, and am going to see if my local dealer will replace them. The Service Manager is a GOOD friend of mine, so that can't hurt! If they won't, then I'll call Muth directly, and see if I can get them to do something. Thanks for the compliment on the truck, too! I really like it, and got a good deal on it...it was a lease return, and I negotiated a deal with the guy that was leasing it. Basically, he turned it back in off lease, the dealership bought it from Ford Leasing, and then they turned around and sold it to me for the price he and I negotiated...which was about trade in value. Saved myself a ton of money, and got a nice truck in the process. It sure doesn't get the gas mileage my old Bronco II did, though!

Just an update...I took my truck into the local Ford dealer, and showed the service writer the mirrors. He said he had to talk to the service manager, who is a friend of mine. Scott, the service manager, asked him if there was a problem with the mirrors, and the service writer said there was. Scott said "then there's no problem, we'll fix it!", and ordered two new mirrors right there on the spot. He said he wouldn't replace just the glass...they would put all new mirror assemblies on the truck. I have to take it in to the bodyshop to have some cracking in the roof paint repaired, so the bodyshop said they'd have the mirrors ready to paint when the truck came in for the other work. All covered under warranty, and no hassles at all.

They have to replace the ENTIRE mirror assembly? That's strange, on mine the just replaced the guts. BTW if you've got signal mirrors they're going to look different. They only have one row of LEDs and you can see them from inside the cab now.

Since the are replacing the whole thing, I suspect they may be putting on '01 signal mirrors.

Whoops.......meant to post this here, and posted it as a new topic...but to rehash...

Well, I got the truck back from the bodyshop. Overall, I'm pleased with it. They did a nice job painting the roof, and the new mirrors look nice. However, they didn't clean it up afterwards...there's buffing compound and overspray all over it! Rather than screw around with them again, I'm just going to clean it up myself. I'm not sure if the mirrors are the new style or not. My old ones had one row of LED's, and so do the new ones. You can also see the LED's flash from inside the cab, as you could with the old ones. However, with the old mirrors, you could actually SEE the LED's inside the mirror. With these mirrors, you can see where the LED's are, but you can't actually see them. Sitting in the cab, it almost looks like a set of fingerprints in the shape of an arrow on the mirror. When the lights are flashing, however, they appear the same from the outside of the truck. Either way, they're fine...they are one heck of a lot better than the old ones. Now, my only problem seems to be with adjustment. The driver's side mirror doesn't seem to adjust "inward" as much as the old one. I can get it to where I want it, but it won't adjust inward any farther. If someone else was driving the truck, and had the seat pushed farther forward, they wouldn't be able to adjust the mirror in far enough to be useable. Is there a way to adjust the travel that anyone is aware of?
One other thing...for those of you that have purchased a used truck, and know that it's been serviced by your local Ford dealer, ask the service manager if you can get a print out of the service record for your vehicle. I did that, and it was an eye opener. I was worried about the door cracks, the leaking head gaskets, etc, and worried that they might show up after the warranty ran out. Turns out my truck has already had the driver's door replaced for the door crack, had the heads removed, head gaskets replaced, and the passenger side head replaced for the oil leak before I bought it. It's been over 15,000 miles since it's been done, and the engine is as clean as the day it left the factory, so I'm hoping that all the problems I was worried about have already been taken care of. But, it's nice to know now what, exactly, HAS been done already!
