Replacment mirrors??

I broke my drivers mirror last night. Ford wants $195. I searched on the web and found a replacement for $51. Has anyone used one? Do they hold up to weather as the factory one? Are they junk or what? Thanks for any help and info. Bob

I needed a replacement passenger side mirror for my '97 XLT. Should have gone with Ford. Try another dealer. I got a price here in FL of $130, including actual Ford mirror. Be careful of aftermarket units. They aren't even made the same. None of the parts are interchangeable. Furthermore, the teardown necessary to do the job is better left to a qualified tech, who can do the job in about 30 minutes, compared to an inexperienced person. Also, the internet unit may not be returnable if it does not work or fit right.

My son thought he was doing me a favor by buying one for me. Cost him $100. It is really junk and not even made well.

Besides that, Ford will stand behind their parts and labor.

Otherwise, try a local body shop. They can usually get Ford parts @ wholesale and have the necessary experience. You can get a good deal if you know someone in the business.

I bought a replacement mirror assembly from http://www.genuine-ford-parts.com It was the exact Ford OEM part that the dealer had, but less then the dealer price. The funny thing is, the list price they show is what the dealer charges for the parts I have compaired.

I also have been looking for a driver's side mirror, but for my 98 F150 XL. The dealer was quoting me $140 for the manual OEM part. But I found a place here in Tulsa, OK that had the exact same mirror (OEM) for only $69. You might contact them at 918-828-0590 and see what sort of price you can get for your mirror.

Hope you don't see this too late and have already spent a lot more $$$.
