Post Rear Window

On 97 - 98, Ford used some hard non-porous plastic to surround the rear window. In 99 through 01, Ford uses the same plastic as on the bumper and steps.

I would like to change out just the plastic surrounding the window. Has anyone done this?

How much and how hard?

Taking it off and painting it sounds like a good plan but does anyone know how hard it would be to paint it. Thanks
