Welcome to F-150 online, sorry to hear about your paint flaw. I've bought many vehicles over the years and all but one has had some flaw (of course you notice them at the first wash/wax). May be factory or dealer touch-up. I had a '96 Accord with a rusting metal shaving under the hood paint. My truck has debris under the bed floor paint. I've had a dealer try to sell me a car with a repainted fender represented as new. Not just a Ford problem, but an industry problem. It will soon get some "society dings" and you will feel better.

Thumbs up

Mr. Mitchell,

You know what really got me so disappointed was the fact that my steed only had 990 miles and is only 3 wks old and you know is still very very new to me. I have been in contact with the dealer and was advised that it is now in the body shop being looked at. This defeats the purpose of buying new. Don't you think?

I hear ya! I'm always disappointed the first time I wash & wax a new car and find it's flaws. Repairs are usually worse than the problem because the factory paint job is usually the best. I bought a black '98 Supra for my wife (waited 9 months for it, another story), at 300 miles a 19 yr old Budweiser delivery goon ran a dolly down the side looking at it.

Slvrsteed,
Did you notice the bubble/chip when you bought it or did it appear after you brought it home? I really like the paint on my truck, I have seen some very expensive cars that don't shine or look as good as mine. My neighbor has a black 99 Silverado and the paint is so thin that big bugs put chips in it (well, I exagerrated just a little), anyway you would not believe the chips he has in that one year old truck.

Question Paint Bubble

Friends,

Has anyone experienced paint chipping from their late model F-150 due to bubble beneath the finish?

Took mine to the dealer today and showed them the chip and it seems as though this wasn't the first they've seen it.

What ever happen to Job#1?

This my very first Ford and I ask you, Did I make a mistake?

Can someone set me straight?

Unhappy

2000Lariat,

I saw the chip after I got it home 21/2 wks later after its very 1st wash/wax detail by yours truely. I do admit Ford puts out high luster paint jobs. But sometimes I guess you just end up with the flaw. Well if anything else happens I guess I'll just have to bare and grin.

By the way, Hows that Herculiner doing for you?

Mr. Mitchell,

Thanks for sharing my anguish. I appreciate you sharing your experiences to console my new truck anxiety.
I will be getting the "steed" back today and will let you know how she looks.

Got her back and think the paint gods must have been watching because my "steed" looks absolutely spectacular. It is as though it just came out of the factory.

Hurray! Hurray! now what next...

Thanks again.

The Herculiner is holding up very well, no scrapes or scratches. It has lost it's original gloss, but still looks great. Glad to hear they did a good job on your paint.

2000Lariat,

Please advise step-by-step as to how you proceded to apply your "Herculiner" and also advise as to what to watch out for and so on.
I truely believe you can learn from someone elses mistakes if any.
Approx how long did it take to achieve desired thickness.
Any advise you may have would greatly be appreciated.
Will the "Herculiner" crack due to heat expansion and contraction which is common here in Texas?

MAD1998-
Your truck is still under the original warranty. Take it back to the dealer and tell them to fix it.
