Steam cleaning engine recommended?

I have 2000 F-150 XLT V6 and just hit 45,000 miles.

I was just wondering if steam cleaning your engine is recommened?

I was thinking of having this done, since it is kinda dusty and dirty under the hood.

Your thoughts?

Thanks and happy truckin!

Cover up alternator, intake, air filter, anything eletrical, battery, things like that, make sure engine is cold, like not had ran in about 4 hours, spray it down with simple green , let it sit for like five minutes, then gently wash it down with water, then get your leaf blower and dry that baby off I do mine twice a year never had a problem

Thumbs up

I've never covered anything? I spray it down with degreaser, let it sit 5 minutes or so, and blast it with a pressure washer. Never had a problem, just don't spray directly into anything.,,,,98

I haven't tried steam cleaning, or degreasers, but I did find something that works amazingly well on those places that can be reached with a rag - Windex. I spray Windex on things like the valve covers, the fan shroud, the internal fender wells, and the air cleaner housing, and it really makes things look new again. It doesn't do much for the engine head or any place that you can't wipe with a rag.

I keep a bottle of Windex in the car to clean the grunge off of the windshield that comes from the sand and salt dumped to melt the snow up here in New England, so it's always convenient to grab when washing the car.
