Post in Bed at Tailgate

I have noticed a small post at towards the middle of the bed under the tailgate. It is not visable unless you open the tailgate. Anyone know what the purpose of this post is? Thanks.

Do you mean a hole? There,s a hole in that location for a crank to be inserted for raising & lowering the spare tire.
