Question Silblade Wipers

Ok, I bought a set of 22" Silblade silicone wipers for my truck based on all the good feedback I read from a number of users out here. Here's my comment. To date, I just don't see any huge advantage in them over a good set of rubber wipers. I've run them in a couple real Florida downpours and they work well, but not what I feel is appreciably better than the Bosch rubber wipers I had on previously. The 22" size is an improvement over stock, and the five year warranty is a good thing, but other than that I'm not totally sold on the Silblades.

Let the rebuttals begin....................

I won't toss a rebuttal at you... it's your opinion and thats your right... here's my opinon however...

I still love mine and, in MY honest opinion, the Bosch wipers aren't worth the poopy rubber that they're made with. I would've much rather seen that rubber used as some sort of 15,000 mile radial or a childs toy. It would've been much more effective. I had a set of them and I tossed them after 4 or 5 uses.

To date, I have ZERO complaints about my Silblades. I love em.

OK, I'm fishin'. Do you treat your windshield with anything to make it more slippery or sheet better? Do you notice that the Silblades on your truck skip / chatter badly when it's only lightly raining? Since we've essentially got the same product installed and are using it for the same purpose, there's gotta be something we're doing differently. Hopefully I can figure it out.

And ease up on the technical jargon (i.e. poopoo rubber) for us non-geology types...........

I use nothing on my windshield.... zero... zip...notta.

I've NEVER had chatter with my Silblades. I have noticed, however, that they tend to work slightly better when it's raining harder or when the blade is wet. I know that sounds kind of weird but, I noticed that when you get some road spray or something like that, it will smear more than wipe so, a quick squirt of winshield washer fluid and, presto, clean windshield and a good clean wipe.

*shrugs* I'm not sure what we're doing differently. Maybe the saline content of the rain down there? Don't get me wrong, I'm no chemist but, would something as simple as pH cause chatter? We're dealing with silicone rubber now... not carbon black rubber (poo poo). LOL!

You might try stripping your glass to see if there is something that may be 'coating' it. To do that, crack open six D-Cell batteries and get the 'gooey stuff' out of the middle. Mix that in your favorite mixing dish with ammonia, a pinch of salt, and a generous amount of honey. Pour this mixture into a jello mold and allow it to 'gel' overnight. Cut into tiny squares, garnish with an orange peel, and serve them to your pets, friends, and general household vermin. They'll love it!

No... seriously...

There are a couple of products out there that are marketed as 'windshield stripping agents'. I bought one, a long time ago, at Wally Hell and it's specifically made to strip the windshield of any 'stuff'. It was in a tube like bonding cement over around the bondo and body work stuff. I'm told that Comet bathroom cleaner will do the same trick however; be ULTRA SUPER DUPER careful around your paint with this stuff as it's caustic as all hell.

Other than the honey and acid and the strippers... I don't know any more tricks. My bag is empty.

Exclamation Clean you glass with.........

either one of these:

Tilex---works great---or

Go to Sears and get the liquid stuff they sell to clean the glass on glass top ranges---works well but takes a little more elbow grease.

A word of caution, DO NOT try to cook eggs on your windshield after using this product. They will taste funny. Hahahaha
