Talking Roof Cracks & Rear Slider Window

A number of folks have mentioned problems with roof cracks and the rear slider window.
Can someone describe what the problem is?
I hav a '97 F250 Xcab still under warranty by a few months. I hav the door cracks on both doors but don't know where to look for the roof cracks (besides on the roof).

Use the search function and search for each topic. You will find all sorts of good information.

IF you have them, the roof cracks are inside the indentions of your roof (the water channels). They will vary in length. from an inch to the entire length of the cab.

Question

Are these roof cracks just in the paint or a crack in the actual metal?

The cracks I found in my 98 supercab (Black)looked like paint/clearcoat cracking...not in the metal. This is why I consider this more of a cosmetic problem, yet not acceptable.

So far..no cracking in the new truck.

My truck is heading for the body shop in the morning (1/17/00) for the roof job (both channels)
Should have it back in two to three days.
Will let you know how it turns out.

Thumbs up

Please do! I was not very happy when I read about this problem on here then went out and found them on my 98 F-150 supercab.

I would like to know if they sand and paint over it or apply a material in the channels..then paint.

Friend of mine also ordered an F-150 recently..but his had some sort of thick, hard material in his channels that was painted over..from the factory. It looked nice.

Got my truck back this afternoon after a two day turnaround for the roof cracks. They did a great job. They stripped the channels all the way down to the bare metal, then reinstalled the "self-leveling" sealer (I think that's what they called it.) Totally repainted the roof. Looks brand new!
Just get the write-up made while still under the original factory warranty.

Sounds good to me! Glad everything worked out...I am sure some of us will also have to do this sooner or later.
