Removing Factory Changer Questions
Removing Factory Changer Questions
I'm going to be installing a new head unit (Pioneer DEH-P7400) and removing my Factory changer. Questions:
1. How does the cable run? It looks like it runs under the carpet? Is that correct?
2. How do I remove that cable?
3. Any tricks or thoughts to removing the system as a whole?
4. Any thoughts or tricks to know of when I remove the deck?
5. Anyone insterested in purchasing the Changer and AM/FM/CASS as a set?
6. Start to finish, about how long will this whole uninstall of the stock and reinstall of the factory take?
Thanks folks. I really appreciate all the great help and suggestions.

1-3 don't worry about taking out the changer cable. You can pick one up from Ford. I cannot imagine the places it goes through and the pieces you have to remove to get the cable out. (Just don't tell the person who buys you equipment that the cable cost $99 from Ford)
4 Pop off the front panel that is around the stereo and I cannot believe someone did not catch this ... You have to have the Ford tool (I have used four pieces of a metal coat hanger to pry out a Ford HU before) to pull out the stock HU. (Sorry, I was thinking about my old Dodge truck for some reason)
5. no
6. If you have the wiring kit and install kit, mount the new radio in the kit and wire the Pioneer to the wire kit before you even touch the truck. If you do the kits first the head unit install should take less than 10 minutes. To take the changer out there are three screws holding the mounting bracket in place that have to be removed. I removed it in less than 5 minutes at 2am on morning by flashlight. (I cannot remember exactly, but I am pretty sure there were only 3 screws.)
i thought you were the guy that took apart your power window buttons on the drivers door panel. If you can do that ... this will be a snap. i think you are just looking to sell you old equpment.
So without taking the changer cable out you are looking at 15 minutes. Going after the changer cable could be an all day event. I did not even try because the guy that took my changer is putting it in a Taurus.
This is probably too late. Did you buy from www.thezeb.com? $249.99

I agree with screwfun on this one. One thing to add is that the changer cable is attached to the rest of the wiring coming down the passenger side of the truck. You would have to tear apart everything to get it out. You can pick up a new one for about $40 shipped from www.radiosandmore.com .
Good Luck!
Good Luck!
I would either spend the money for the cable and sell it for a little more as a whole unit or tell them where they can get the cable i wouldnt cut it out since the factory harnesses are tightly wrapped and not worth cutting anything out.
Thanks for the insight folks. Anyone know the actual ford part number for that cd changer cable?
I'd like to be able to point whoever might buy this sytem straight towards purchasing a new cable so they can get up and running quickly.
I bought it from Crutchfield. It was a few bucks more but, I got the kit and harness and Ford radio tool... I just figured it'd be a little easier to get everything in a 'one-stop-shop'. Plus, I got 6 months same as cash so, I can pay it out over the next 180 days. Just a little perk...
As usual... thanks guys.
(oh yeah, I was the guy that tore the entire power window switch assembly apart...hehehehe... I guess this will be easy compared to that huh? LOL!)

Not sure if this one works with Premium sound or not. http://www.radiosandmore.com/prod_de...=XU3F-14588-DA . You could call and ask.
