Double Din question (sort of)
Double Din question (sort of)
Hello all-
I've seen other messages on here about the double DIN units- My question is:
Is a double DIN actually a double DIN size (ie DIN x2)? The reason I'm trying to verify is I'd like to see if I could get a head unit AND a 5 disk changer to fit in the factory space of my Lightning-
Curious to know if anyone has done this, and what problems were involved, or if it is the same as the double DIN "all in one" units-
TIA,
Chris

Chris,
Not really sure if I understand , but I will try . Double din, I believe the lightning hole is double din at the opening but din & a half at the back . the CD6 post below is a good example, I believe it is a true double , unlike the stock lightning unit that is triangular in the rear, see how he had to cut the back out. I am about to experiment with this also . I want to get 2 head units in the opening. email me if you need to explain further.

Ok, I appreciate it-
But just to clarify, I'm actually looking at placing two single DIN units in the space (one receiver, one 5 disk changer)- not just a double DIN unit.
Has anyone done this? It would make sense it would fit, but just from looking at the outside, it sure as he11 doesn't look like it would-
TIA,
Chris

Before I installed my Kenwood, I had an Alpine CVA-1005 and the DVD component installed. I wasn't going to deal with it, so I had an MECP installer friend do it for me. He did have to cut part of the panel because the rear part of the radio cavity is essentially a din and 1/2. It didn't take too terribly long and I loved the results.
Yes, it looks like I'll be breaking out the Dremel tool this evening- what I'm most concerned with at the moment is if the pop off cover is going to interfere with the operation of either unit- as I am going to have to cut the piece out behind it to make it bigger-
Is there anything that the cover blocks on your unit?
