Question Need help compiling stero

I am getting ready to purchase a new 150 regular cab. I already have a Power Acoustiks Area 51 amp . I do not know anything really about this kind of thing , and was wondering if anyone could recomend some speakers that would fit in my truck and be compatible with my amp that aren't completey outrageous. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Not familiar with the amp. How many watts is it rated at? For doors, many are using Pioneer 2 or 3way, Boston Acoustics or Kicker componets (do to using a 5x7 woofer) and many others. the Pionneers can be found for less than $100 and the Kicker goes for $240 at Crutchfield.com

pioneers and alpines are fine, but if going to use an amp, then move into the stiffer cone and higher quality speaker. I find the CDT Audio to be the best combination of value -cost versus performance. Then you start to talk true component with seperate crossovers. You can check them at www.cdtaudio.com
if you go this way contact me and I will tell you where to buy at a discount, ghaizlip@hotmail.com

Thumbs up

I got 6 1/2 2 way MB Quart on the doors & 6 1/2 comp in Q Forms at the kick panels. They sound CLEAN & LOUD, kinda pricey but worth the $$.

elchorizon2,

How did the install go on those MB Quart coaxes in your doors? I have a set of 6.5" MB Quart Premium coaxes (I think the model # is PKC116 or PKC216 or something of the sort) that I pulled out of my old Probe GT before I sold it and I was thinking of putting into my 2001 SuperCrew. Did you have to do much or any cutting to fit them in the doors? Do the tweeters clear the doorpanels OK? Just wondering if I should go ahead and try these or if I should look into other options like seperates if installing these are going to be too big of a PITA.

Thanks for the help!

You will have to make an adapter panel to mount the MB's in. You do not have to cut the doors to get them to fit. BUT Ford actually placed the stock speakers too far forward. Part of the speakers are hidden by the door panel. I cut a small moon shaped piece out of the door to allow me to slide the speaker further back and center it more in the factory door grille. Depending on how high the tweeter is above the rest of the speaker it should fit. I think I still half about 1/2" available. Questions??

David,

Thanks for the info! What did you use to make your adapter plates? I think the tweeter sticks up about 0.25" from the face of the speaker so with about 0.5" of room I should be fine as long as the adapter plates aren't too thick.

I used a 1/2" think plastic composite a friend picked up at a boat company. I got a couple of scrap pieces they were going to through away and used them. I also have a layer of Dynamat under the adapter so that is probably another 1/8" of available space. At 1/2" it should work...
