Thumbs up factory stereo removal

Hello

I just purchased a new stereo for my 1997 F-150 extended cab.
When I took off the trim around the stereo and haeting controls
and tried to pull out the factory stereo it wouldnt budge. I thought I saw some snaps which I broke of but it still didnt come out. Is there a snap on the top or some where I dont know about? Please help/

thanks,

mikef

You need a radio removal tool. You slide it into the little holes on each side of the radio itself and push out to release the clips. You could try a coat hanger but it's not likely to be strong enough.

Wink

You can pick up a pair of these at Walmart in the Car Stereo section for about $8.

Thumbs up

Got the removal tools from Walmart for $4- at lunch today. They were smaller than I thought they would be.

I cut a coat hanger and bent it. It worked ok. However some patience is required. You have to work with it a bit.
