Firestik FireRing connectors

How exactly do these work? Does the ring act as the connector and transmits the signal to the cb? Does using one of these run a higher chance of damaging a cb radio?

If anyone is confused what im talking about, its this -

Here is how I have mine mounted on my Super Duty the small wire you see is a ground to the bed of the truck. They will not hurt the CB right now I have a SWR between 1.8 to 2 and I can improve on that buy grounding the bed better.

I did all of this and my radio still does not work?
