CAN bus interface for door locks????

I settled on installing my remote start myself, I am getting a viper 5301.

I know I can get the xpress kit PKFM bypass for the transponder overide, which is the minimum I need. However I will lose the auto on headlights on unlock.

I am interested in using a CAN module for the door locks, so the viper 5301 can unlock the doors using the factory CAN bus interface, therefore I would get the factory domelight supervision and factory headlight illumination. I seen the DEI xpress CANMAX400 but I don't htink it does door locks, it just interface directly to the CAN bus for remote start transponder bypass.

Anyone make a CAN bus door lock interface module for our trucks???

im fairly certain the XK04 does locks/immobilzer. Let me double check and get back to you.

I'm new to this, but this is what I know from my research so far:

PKFM is the replacement for the XK04. Both these modules are just the no key immobolizer bypass, it uses the ignition coil.

XK05 is the immobolizer bypass that uses the Tx/Rx lines on that PATS module.

CANMAX400 is an immobilizer bypass that conects directly to the truck CAN bus to bypass the immobolizer.

From what I've read all three do not send lock/unlock signals over the CAN bus to simulate the factory lock/unlock.

But again, I could be wrong, I'm not an expert by any means.

Ok did more research.

Looks like the Viper 5301 has an express port that can dock the CANMAX400DEI into it.

The CANMAX400DEI then hooks into the vehicles CAN bus using the Tx and Rx lines. From what I'm reading so far, all commands from the viper 5301 are sent to the truck using the CAN bus, eliminating all wiring to the BCM module. If this is true then the keypad, factory unlock/lock, dome lights, etc. will work 100% factory.

Anyone hook up their alarm using an xpress CANMAX400 or CANMAX400DEI???

Yeah I might have to.

I looked at their website, their latest firmware for Ford from what I'm reading doesn't do door locks, just transponder bypass.

If we had a GM or chrysler, they have some SWEET firmware for those cars that lets the alarm just do EVERYTHING from the CAN bus. It does door locks, illumination, horn, lights, factory alarm, truck release, EVERYTHING.

I'll have to call and confirm that their Ford firmware is behind, and if it is to see when/if they will come out with fully functional Ford firmware.

I'm believe CANBUS400 has only been out 1 year, so there still coming out with new firmware everyday.

Yeah, call DEI for sure.

They have a new one for chrysler now that we are testing that is super awesome...unplug your igintion harness, plug that into this, plug this into your column, and run the cable to the module. Essentialy its just a t-harness...pretty awesome.

Only able to bypass the PATS key system. Hopefully in the near future there will be something that will work wit the CANBUS. On the new Taurus I can use a module to control everything in the car such as lock/unlock, factory arm/disarm, trunk, tach signal, rear defrost and even turn the heated seats on with it. Just not available for the truck yet.

Resurecting an old thread here...

Just wondering if there's any update?

I got the Viper 5901 for Christmas and now need to install... I should be fully capable of doing it by wire (I'm an EE, so I hope I can translate the daigrams and such) but would really rather just use the bus interface if possible...

Anyone with tips, advice, etc... much appreciated!!!

Thanks!

No, theres not an update its still the same info. PKALL XK04 556SW or 556UW. The 5901 is an awesome system. Make sure you feel comfortable once you crack the dash. No offense but Ive seen the most harm done during an alarm by a guy that was an EE.

The best tips I have are:
1) If you think youre in over your head, its not worth the damage bill. Just take it to the nearest shop.
2) Solder
3) Meter every wire and ask for help if you need it. (Email me or KCAutosound, hes a pretty solid guy)
4) Solder
5) The most time is saved by knowing the wire locations first and then prewiring by getting the wires of the same area together and taping all the way to the end of the wire. Its all about the hiding of the wires
6) Did I mention Solder?
7) Hide the brain.
