radar detector question

I didnt know where to post this, so ill just put it here. Ive been thinking about getting a radar detector for my interstate driving to and from school. I dont know much about these, and was just hoping to hear from somebody who knows on what to buy and not to buy. I know you can spend anywhere from $50 to $400 on them, but im definately not planning on spending that. I was hoping to stay in the 100-150 range. My question is are the ones in that price range actually better performing or do they just look better(digital display etc..).
Thanks for the help.

Escort would be the only way I would go, but thats double your price range. The cobras arent bad, but you get what you pay for.

The average speeding ticket is $150. Buy a $300 one, it saves you twice, and its payed for itself. The range/quality of the Escorts is superb. There is a reason why they are constantly voted number 1. My 8500 picked up a cop 2 1/2 miles ahead once on the way to Vegas. I was starting to think it was a false alert and just as I was about to get back up to speed, there he was.

Ive got the Beltronics 995 and love it. I found it on sale for 220 at Circuit City a while back and it has more than paid for its self. The cheaper ones give out false alerts, and the cop has to be on your *** before it goes off. I think Escort and Beltronics are made by the same company. Just different cases I believe. Just dont get a cobra from walmart haha.

Just remember. You get what you pay for.

Escort or Beltronics, stay away from the V1's IMO. I love my escort X50 it is about 2-3yrs old and I love it. It has bad for itself several times by saving me from a ticket

Summary: Escort, worth the money, or Beltronics

Get a radio, it works a lot better than a radar detector.

^^CB's work very well too. I can call out and get a report if there are any cops sitting shooting Radar. (but that mainly works on interstates) So i got a radar detector for in town.

Like the man said - you get what you pay for. Escort is the way to go. I've had all brands over the years, mostly case I didn't feel I could afford an Escort. Last year I found the Escort Solo 2 (battery operated for cordless use) on ebay for a steal. Bought it, and already it has more than saved me the purchase price.

If you really want to make an informed decision, check out www.radarbusters.com and read the reviews by Radar Roy - a retired cop who test drives all the top models.

I have a Beltronics Pro RX65 and love it. I got the smart cord hardwire kit so no dangling cord to annoy me. You get what you pay for.
