Does the factory CD head unit in a 2001 F150 XLT have line outputs? I'm assuming it does reading about the setups here. Is there already "framing" in place that would make sticking a single DIN unit in and securing it easy? I'm not sure if I want to have a spacer wasting dash space though.

There are no RCA preouts on the factory ford CD player . the head unit sounds great with my Bostons but when I tested out an Eclipse 12" in there with just a line converter (on rear speaker outs) it sounded like crap. So I put the old DEH-9200 back in and it sounded better. Factory deck is great but not for hooking an amp to. If you don't want to waste dash space get a double din replacement or a single din CD and single din equalizer that is what I am gonna do.

I got my radio stolen, and I put my factory head unit in. My amp has a high input on it and I ran the wires to the factory head unit rear speaker output and spliced them into the factory wireing harness. It sounds better with this setup than with the 400 dollar pioneer with a sub output. I think the problem you are haveing is with the rca converter. You need to use a amp with high input instead...

christrucker is right...don't use an RCA converter...they are junk! Use an amp with high level inputs and it will make a world of difference.

Does anyone have the wiring diagram for the 2001 F150 Premium sound deck? I am trying to figure out what colors the wires for the rear speaker outs are and on which harness they are. Also, which are negative and positive?
